About WILDTROPIX | ANDRE BAERTSCHI
Swiss photographer Andre Baertschi specializes in the natural history of tropical forests. He spends part of the year in some of the remotest places of the New World tropics. His work has been published world-wide in renowned magazines such as GEO, BBC Wildlife, International Wildlife, Natural History, Smithsonian and National Geographic and in numerous nature books. His own books MANU – Peru’s Amazonian Eden and Where the Andes meet the Amazon about Peru and Bolivia’s Bahuaja-Sonene and Madidi National Parks are classics of these large conservation areas along the tropical Andes.
Several of his photos won awards in the annual BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition and in 1992 he was awarded the top prize in this largest and most prestigious international contest of its kind.
As a wildlife photographer, Andre strives to document the undisturbed beauty of tropical nature, but also the devastating effects of its systematic destruction, using his images as a powerful conservation weapon.
